Ingredients

The ingredients used in this tea blend are all organic which means no pesticides and harmful toxins.

Here is a complete list of ingredients:

  • Organic green tea leaf
  • Organic lemongrass
  • Organic spearmint leaf
  • Organic dried kombucha (from fermented black tea)
  • Organic passion fruit flavour
  • Organic plum flavour

What I really like about Yogi Tea is that it doesn’t contain any artificial ingredients. Everything on the list is 100% natural.

The special ingredient in this tea blend is of course kombucha which is fermented tea. Normally, this is drunk on its own and has a very distinctive taste.

Just like green tea, kombucha also contains antioxidants and can help to decrease cholesterol.

It’s not clear what percentage of kombucha this tea blend contains and Yogi’s customer service did not want to reveal the percentage of each of the ingredients, saying that “this is proprietary information”. However, they stated that “ingredients are listed in descending order of predominance”.

Aroma

When the tea is steeping, the aroma is lovely – it’s really fruity (surprisingly) which I didn’t expect. This must be coming from added natural flavouring – passion fruit and plum flavours which are additional ingredients and not some of the main ingredients.

I can also smell a bit of mint in the background which is one of the main ingredients (spearmint leaf). What about the taste? Will that impress?

Taste

At first sip, the first thing I taste is not fruits, it’s definitely mint coming through. So while the tea smells really fruity, the taste is different and mint takes over and fruity flavours are in the background.

I drink my tea without any sugar or sweeteners. And this tea definitely doesn’t need anything added to it.

The overall taste is lovely, slightly minty, barely fruity and definitely not bitter although I can feel some astringency afterwards.

Yogi Kombucha Green Tea doesn’t taste anything like green or black tea, it’s more like herbal tea, to be honest.

FAQs

How much caffeine does Yogi Kombucha Green Tea contain?

Each tea bag contains approximately 15 mg of caffeine. This is not a lot – if you compare it to 8 oz coffee which contains approximately 90 mg.

Where do the ingredients come from?

Yogi source their ingredients from different parts of the world and the ingredients used in their Green Tea Kombucha tea come from several different countries, including the USA, Egypt and China. Their customer service did not say which ingredient comes from which country.

Does Yogi kombucha green tea have probiotics?

Here is the process explaining how dried kombucha for Yogi kombucha green tea is made: First, a live kombucha culture is used to create a kombucha, black tea and water infusion. The kombucha starter is added to the black tea infusion and a fermentation process begins.

After fermentation, the water from this mixture is subsequently removed by a spray dry pasteurization process. Due to this pasteurization process, Yogi Green Tea Kombucha tea does not contain living organisms or probiotics like traditional raw kombucha. However, Yogi have confirmed that acids, a beneficial by-product of the kombucha, remain in the tea when brewed according to the directions on the carton.

Does Yogi kombucha green tea contain any alcohol?

The alcohol from the kombucha infusion dissipates in the spray dry pasteurization process. However, Yogi do not test for residual alcohol in their teas and although they are very unlikely to contain any alcohol, some residue may be left in them.

The final verdict

All in all, Yogi Green Tea Kombucha is a lovely tea with some health benefits and wonderful flavour. If you love herbal teas you will certainly love this one but if you want to enjoy the benefits of kombucha, it’s better you drink it in its raw form to gain the benefits from its probiotics.
