01/6These healthy foods are actually unhealthy for you
As the craze for switching to a healthier lifestyle is mounting up, picking healthy food options is equally important. With more people demanding healthier food substitutes, the market is buzzing with all types of diet-friendly and healthy food options. From flavoured yogurt and granola to diet coke and packed fruit juices, all these food picks are popular among the health-conscious people. But are these healthy foods actually healthy? Read on to know.
02/6Flavoured Yogurt
Flavoured yogurt might be a treat for your taste buds but is not the healthiest pick for you. These fruity desserts come in a large variety of flavours ranging from strawberry and blueberry to mango and chocolate. In order to flavour-up the yogurt, artificial flavours and loads of sugar are added. This makes this so-called healthy food, ‘junk food in disguise’. If you want to have flavoured yogurt, add some honey, chopped fruits to plain yogurt and enjoy.
03/6Granola
Often granola cereal and granola bars are marketed as healthy snacks which can actually help in weight loss. Granola in itself is a nutritious cereal but the packaged cereal or bars that are sold in the market are made with lots of added sugar. This is done to make them tastier, but in turn this added sugar makes them unhealthier. If you want to have granola, purchase plain granola from the market and make your own mix by adding some nuts and seeds to it.
04/6Diet Coke
Diet Coke is every weight-watcher’s favourite pick as it is said to be sugar-free and calorie-free. But is diet coke healthy for you or is this just a marketing tactic? Diet coke is a mixture of artificial sugars, additives and carbonated water. It has no nutritive content in it and can cause severe dehydration in the body. Instead of sugar, an artificial sweetener called aspartame is added to diet coke that is said to increase the production of fat cells in the body. Thus, it is best to avoid all types of aerated and sugary drinks at all costs.
05/6Packaged Fruit Juices
If you are habitual of drinking packaged fruit juices for breakfast, thinking that they are healthy and giving you a good portion of fruit, then you need to know the reality. Fruit juices are loaded with sugar to make them tastier and preservatives to make them last long. On the other hand, most fruit juices have added flavour and colour to give them a beautiful appearance. It is better to always opt for fresh fruit juices rather than packaged ones.
06/6Salad Dressing
For those on a diet or those who are trying to eat healthy, salads are the ultimate saviour. Super nutritious and filling, a bowlful of salad is a complete meal in itself. But if you are adding different types of dressing to it, beware, as it might be making your salad unhealthier. Most salad dressing are made with mayonnaise and other such sauces, which have added sugar and salt. Thus, always avoid adding the dressing to your salad and enjoy it in the most natural way possible.
